Ellen Hoyt

Art is in her genes. At the tender age of 6 Ellen won her first art contest, the city-wide public school art contest in New York City. This was the first of the many juried art contests won throughout her professional career.

Ellen chose watercolor as her medium, because she feels, "it has infinite possibilities enhanced by the transparency of the paint." Her expressive brushwork contributes to her unique style.

Her favorite subject is the natural kingdom extolling the scenic beauty of our country from coast to coast. Images flow from her brush and pallet in an imaginative style that is new and her own.

Ellen is a much sought-after artist, as is evident by the extensive demand for her paintings by galleries, business organizations, corporations and private collectors. What distinguishes Ellen and matters most to her is the warmth and affection she shares with her students, fellow artists and patrons.

As an art instructor, Ellen was described as "...the person to study with if you want to learn professional techniques of the masters." It is a happening, to her, each time the paint meets the paper. Her secrets are shared with her peers and students.

Ellen enjoys the great out-of-doors, a hiker, a camper and traveler with her husband, children and grandchildren. An enthusiastic environmentalist and conservationist, she is distressed seeing the destruction of our environment. Her admiration of the natural world does not lessen her full appreciation of the museums, theater and diversity of cultures of the urban life. A native New Yorker she still lives and works in her studio in Brooklyn. Ellen is a charter member of the Brooklyn Watercolor Society. Professional listings include: "Who's Who in American Art" and "Who's Who of Women", internationally.

Ellen says, "Fortunately, I can create in my paintings the places I like to be." She hopes that those who see or own her paintings grasp the same sense of joy and peace that she experiences while creating each watercolor.
